How To Enjoy Clothes Shopping For Those Who Faint...Often

One thing that I've learned in the last few years dealing with my various chronic illnesses is to work smarter, not harder. For me that means that I have to make better decisions and use my resources to get things done. You may have already read about my Ikea experience in my last post and my short lived bursts of energy. That happens with everything, even if it is a trip to the grocery store or laundry mat. I just have to learn how to plan and adjust to my surroundings. I haven't been able to get in to the grocery shopping online yet but I do see the benefit of it. However, when I have to shop for clothes I prefer to use the internet and shop online.

Reasons Why I Like Shopping Online

Flexibility- It allows me the flexibility to decide what I want without having to go from store to store and getting exhausted. That is an exhausting task when I am fighting my body to stay upright. When I am online I can shop at almost any store in the world and take my time. This is also a benefit when I am dealing with insomnia and I decide to shop when it best suits me.

Measurements- What makes it possible for me to shop online successfully is that I learned how to take and use my measurements. A few years ago I came across a blog post by Chastity Garner of Garner Style about knowing your measurements when shopping online. She also discussed fabric and its properties to aid in a better fit. This saved me a lot of grief and the aggravation that comes with returning packages full of items that looked like they would fit at the time.

Convenience- Have you ever tried on clothes in a fitting room and it's hot and cramped? It is not fun, especially when you have problems with regulating your body temperature. Most places do have a bench or something but it is only a temporary solution because you still have to leave the store and get home. When I am home I don't have to wait in line or rush out. I have the luxury of being in my comfortable space to try on my clothes. I find that this also takes the anxiety out of the shopping experience for me. If I happen to get tired I can just lay down and rest and crank up the air. Nothing beats it.

There are cons to online shopping as well but the internet is a resource that I use to save myself for another task. If you haven't gotten in to it before I suggest you give it a try.

One day at a time.
